It’s interesting how when someone enters the internet marketing industry, they seem to gravitate towards promoting someone else’s product as an affiliate. A substantial portion of the how-to products dealing with making money on the internet seem to deal with teaching people how to be successful by promoting sales of other people’s products. While, that’s fine, I think they are all missing a huge opportunity here.
Now, I’m not saying that you cannot be successful by being an affiliate. Quite the contrary. I know a lot of people who have become fabulously wealthy by anybody’s standards, promoting products as an affiliate. But it is by no means the ONLY way to become successful and wealthy on the internet. The hidden opportunity that no one seems to want to talk about, is the opportunity to create your own information product and sell it on the internet.
I think I know what you’re thinking now. You’re thinking “That’s fine for you to say. I really don’t have any area of expertise. I am not an expert in anything. What kind of information product could I possible create?”
But that’s the key point. Everyone is an expert at something, or at least passionate about something, and can put in the effort required to do a little research and become knowledgeable about the topic. Knowledgeable enough to be able to write for people who know almost nothing about the topic. You may be a stay-at-home mom with a really delicious recipe for a chocolate chip cookie, that everyone in your family loves. Would you be interested in making money by selling about 5,000 copies of that recipe for a five dollars per copy? That’s $25,000 you didn’t have before. That could pay for a year of college for your teenager at a decent school. Are you a dad with young children who is passionate about coaching their sports teams? How does selling a manual on softball coaching or soccer coaching for $10 a copy to 10,000 people sound? That’s $100,000 in your pocket. The could probably pay off your mortgage or finance a nice addition to your house. And if you’re not a homeowner yet, what a nice down-payment that would make!
With the excellent resources available today for authors to self-publish their works, there really are no barriers for people looking to get their knowledge out to the masses of people who want to learn what you have to teach. In future posts I will talk about how you could create your own information product and take it to market. It is far easier than you thought and people just like you have done it, and become very successful. Isn’t it your turn now?
For now, think about the topic you’re most passionate about – it could be anything from paper-mache to photography, religion to relationships . How much do you know about this topic? And how much could you write down about it that would explain the little known secrets of that topic to people who are not as familiar with the topic? All of that is valuable to people who want to learn about that topic and can make you money
